There are two Methodes to create a Bootable Pendrive on PC:

  • Using the Command Prompt.
  • Using External Software like RUFUS.

Why Do we Need to Create a Bootable Pen Drive?

The answer is very simple, nowadays any Operating System is available to download online, and not every laptop/PC comes with CD Drive, so it becomes easy to use a Bootable Pen Drive to install the Operating System on your PC using the iso file.

Today Here I will share an in-depth procedure for creating a Bootable Pendrive using the Command Prompt and Using the Rufus Software. This is going to help you to use your Pendrive to install any new Operating System.

Create a Bootable Pendrive using Rufus Software:

Rufus is one of the Best free to use and easy to create bootable Pendrive software for PC. I prefer it if you are not good at the Command prompt of your pc.

Warning: Creating Bootable Pendrive will format your Pendrive, make sure you take your data backup from the Pendrive.

Step 1: Download and Install the Rufus Software

Step 2: Check the Disk Volume type of your PC (GPT or MBR)

The Rufus Setting Partition Scheme must be the same as your PC Disk Volume type. To check Search Partition in your Pc >> Then Right Click on the Partition and Go to Properties >> Then Click on Volume and Check the Partition Style.

Most of the time the Partiton Style is GPT so if you choose the Partition Scheme in RUFUS as GPT is ok.

Step 3: Insert Your Pendrive and Setup the Rufus settings

First Select your Pendrive >> Then Select the iso File >> Then Select the Partition Scheme GPT >> Select the target System as UEFI and check the Status is Ready if yes then Click Start.

Setup Rufus to Create Bootable Pen Drive

You need to wait until the Operating system is fully loaded on your Pendrive. Once the Process is complete you can use your Pendrive as Bootable USB to Install the OS.

Create a Bootable Pendrive using Command Prompt:

This Process is quite hard but if you are familier with the Command Prompt on your PC then it is very easy. This trick let you create your Bootable Pen Drive without using any external Software.

This method of creating a bootable USB Pendrive with command Prompt need some commands you just follow the commands one by one and see the results.

Warning: Creating Bootable Pendrive will format your Pendrive, make sure you take your data backup from the Pendrive.

Step 1: Search CMD in your PC and Open the Command Prompt.

Step 2: Insert your Pen Drive in your PC.

Step 3: Now follow these commands in the Command Prompt

Lets Start with the command diskpart and hit enter. Then type list disk and hit enter again.

  1. type select disk 1 (to select your Pendrive to choose your device accordingly carefully) and hit enter,
  2. Now type Clean (this will clean your selected disk) and hit enter.
  3. Now type create partition primary (this will create new partitions in the disk) and hit enter.
  4. Then Type Select partiton 1 (The Partition 1 will be selected in the new format) and hit enter.
  5. Now Type format fs=fat32 quick and hit the enter button.
    • Then Wait for the Process to complete 100%
  6. Now Type active and hit the enter button.
  7. Then type assign letter=z (this will rename the disk with Z name) and hit enter.
  8. Now type exit (this will exit the select partition command action) and hit enter.

Now the Final Step for this you need to open the iso file so that it will appear as a drive (CD drive) and you can use the Drive location to copy the iso file to your PD.

In the following command the G:\ location is of iso file disk and Z:\ is the Pendrive.

You can Type: xcopy space iso file disk name *.* space s/e/f space Pendrive disk name

9. Type xcopy G:\*.* s/e/f Z:\ and hit enter this will take time and your iso file will be copied in the pen drive and you can use the PD to install the OS on pc.
